James Vernon Taylor (born March 12, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Boston, Massachusetts. He grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where his father Isaac Taylor was the dean of the University of North Carolina Medical School. His family summered on Martha's Vineyard. Taylor's career began in the mid-1960s, but he found his audience in the early 1970s, singing sensitive and gentle acoustic songs. He was part of a wave of soft singer-songwriters of the time that also included Carole King, Joni Mitchell, John Denver, Jackson Browne and Carly Simon (whom he later married).

My lady dont allow the life I lead
She dont abide by some of the company that I keep
She takes occasion to criticize, and carry on
I love her so, I just cant stand it no more
Im a fool for you babe, dont you know
Mess around momma, Im a fool for you mommaroo...
I should say
My baby knows that Im crazy bout her lovin
Thats alright, she takes unfair advantage now and then
She jumps at the chance to tease me with her body
Lord, I love that thing so
Just cant stand it no more
Im a fool for you babe
Look around Im a fool for you
Have a sweet thang today
